Create revenue classifications

Most of the time, you’ll use the standard corporate revenue classifications (Food, Beverage, Resource, Audio Visual, Function Room Rental, Admin Charge, and Other) to set up your taxes, admin and gratuity charges, BEOs, and banquet checks.

However, if your property sells sub-categories of items that require unique tax rules, an administrator can create property-specific revenue classifications to accommodate those tax requirements. For example, beer and wine are subject to your standard 9.25% state sales tax; however, spirits are also subject to a 15% liquor tax. To account for the additional tax applied to spirits, you can create a Liquor revenue classification for the property and then assign it both the state sales tax and the liquor tax within the property's tax group. This ensures that beer, wine, and spirits are all taxed correctly on your banquet checks.

You cannot create new corporate revenue classifications; however, there are eight custom corporate revenue classifications that can be enabled for your org. Please contact Amadeus Support for more information.

Prior to R23, you may have created property-specific revenue classifications to accommodate the different taxes, admin, and gratuity at each property. If you'd like, you can continue to work in this way rather than enabling the property-specific admin and gratuity feature in R23.

To create a revenue classification

  1. In the Revenue Classifications section of the Property page, click New.
  2. Complete the fields on this page, as needed.

    FieldDescription
NameEach revenue classification should have a unique name. If you're creating the same revenue classification for multiple properties, consider including the property in your naming convention (for example, Liquor - The City Hotel and Liquor - Amadeus Plaza). This will help you differentiate between revenue classifications in reports and searches.

The following standard corporate revenue classifications are provided by default: Food, Beverage, Resource, Audio Visual, Function Room Rental, Administrative Charge, and Other. These names should not be changed.

Parent ClassificationEach property-specific revenue classification must be assigned to a parent (for example, Beverage would be the parent of Liquor). Here are a few things to keep in mind:
    • Corporate revenue classifications exist at the "root" level, so they don't have parents.
    • If you need to change the parent, you must select one that is within the same root classification. For example, you could move Liquor anywhere under Beverage, but you could not move it to Food.
    • Only one revenue classification can be defined for Function Room Rental and Administrative Charge. Because these classifications already exist as corporate defaults, you should not select them to be the parent of the classification you're creating.
Default Admin ChargeThe default admin that should be applied to records assigned to this revenue classification (menus, items, other income items, and/or function room rental). This percentage is used to calculate admin charges on banquet checks. It can also be used in tax calculations.

If needed, users can modify the admin charge on the event.

Default GratuityThe default gratuity that should be applied to records assigned to this revenue classification (menus, items, other income items, and/or function room rental). This percentage is used to calculate gratuity on banquet checks. It can also be used in tax calculations.

If needed, users can modify the gratuity on the event.

Apply Admin & Gratuity to Discount PriceWhen this check box is selected, admin and gratuity will be calculated using the discount price of all menus and items associated to the revenue classification. When the check box is cleared, the base price will be used to calculate admin and gratuity unless otherwise indicated at the event level or the menu and item level. See Apply admin and gratuity to discounts.
PropertyThe name of the property associated with the revenue classification. If necessary, find and select a different property (you must have at least Property Administrator rights at that property).

Corporate revenue classifications do not have an associated property.

ActiveWhen the Active check box is selected (default), the revenue classification is available to all users at the property. To deactivate the revenue classification, clear the check box. The classification will continue to be displayed in existing records but will not be available for new records.

You cannot deactivate the standard corporate revenue classifications.

Root ClassificationThe Root Classification check box applies only to corporate revenue classifications. Do not change this setting.

The required fields are displayed with a red indicator. These fields must be completed before you can save the record.
